About

Mito y desobediencia presents works made between 1991 and 1998 by Belkis Ayón (Havana, 1967 to 1999). The exhibition is on level minus 1 at Malba and was curated by María Amalia García, Alejandra Aguado and Nancy Rojas.

Ayón built her figures around the myth of the Abakuá secret society and its central figure Sikán, questioning the patriarchal side of the brotherhood. The show highlights her use of collagraphy, a printing technique based on collaged matrices.

Highlights

  • Works from 1991 to 1998 centred on the Sikán figure
  • Collagraphy, a printing technique built from collaged matrices
  • Curated by María Amalia García, Alejandra Aguado and Nancy Rojas
